Secretary General of the Swedish Snus Manufacturers Association: Sweden Produces 300 Million Cans Annually of Snus and Nicotine Pouches

Patrik Strömer, Secretary General of the Swedis Snus Manufacturers Association, stated that Sweden’s annual production volume of snus and nicotine pouch products reaches approximately 300 million cans.

Strömer explained, in exclusive remarks to Aswaq News, on the sidelines of a special visit to the factory’s headquarters in Sweden, that the manufacture of snus and nicotine pouches only requires simple ingredients: salt, water, and nicotine.

He added that the company “Swedish Match” owns six dedicated production facilities for snus and nicotine pouches in Sweden, including three large-scale factories, as well as three smaller production sites.

Strömer provided a clarification about the difference between the two products, saying:

Snus: A smoke-free tobacco product used by placing it under the upper lip. It is a traditional product widely used in Sweden, several European countries, and the United States. It is not burned, and therefore produces neither smoke nor tar, making it less harmful compared to traditional smoking.

Nicotine Pouches: A product similar in appearance to snus, but it does not contain tobacco. It is made from synthetic nicotine or nicotine extracted from plant sources, along with flavorings and other natural ingredients. It is considered a less harmful alternative and is increasingly accepted across various age groups.
